Here I go again!

"Life is made up of small pleasures. Happiness is made up of those tiny successes. The big ones come too infrequently. And if you don't collect all these tiny successes, the big ones don't really mean anything." Norman Lear

All my life I have wanted to become a writer; write a book, keep a journal, create songs and poems … throughout the years, I always tried to instill in my students my love of language by attacking each project with creative zeal, infusing my enthusiasm for the written word into every lesson. However, I rarely get around to writing down my own thoughts and stories in any sustainable manner. Then, a number of years ago, I discovered blogging. What a truly wonderful vehicle this is for me, the wannabe writer. Since then I have created blogs to target various aspects of my professional and personal life. Success by 60 was launched in 2012 as an attempt to bring them all together under the lens of sentiments surrounding success... in my career, in my classroom, in my life. Since then, life took a number of twists and turns, and I find myself back in School District 60 as Principal of the elementary school where I started my teaching journey (in my very first teaching practicum) and back to restoring this blog. (I lost the domain name along the way, and all the posts...)

So, here I go again! Success of any venture does not always follow a straight line. I will re-post my original "sentiments" and sprinkle in some new ones. Now, 8 years later, I have only 2 years to go, but as a dear friend and colleague once told me, why success by 60? you're already there! Thanks, Sheila!

January 1, 2012

"Well here I am again, starting up a new chapter of my life with another blogging experiment! The name Success by 60 was born from the ashes of my weight-loss journal 50 by 50. My goal was to write 50 posts on various weight-loss topics and lose 50 pounds by my 50th birthday. Maybe a little too ambitious (with only 265 days to achieve). My 50th has come and gone, but my resolve to set new goals, reflect on and celebrate successes has not. I've decided to broaden my view though and delve into the psyche of success across all the important aspects of my life: my career (in Education), my classroom and students, my health, my other pursuits and my relationships.

The new year presents a logical starting point and here are my goals for this blog:

- to post 60 observations and celebrations on success

- to include 60 quotes and reference others' work on this topic

- to lose 60 pounds and create a list of 60 steps to my improved health

- create a bank of 60 websites/books on success (and read them too)

- along the way collect 60 followers/guest bloggers to inspire and be inspired by

and so, welcome to Success by 60. I've got 10 years and lots to do and learn. I'm ready, after all it's a New Year!"
